The characters argue and discuss their respective positions on philosophy and religion throughout the long digressive plot, and Myshkin mourns earlier dostoiegski when people were of a simpler mind: Even those who try to cheat on him end up loving him. Prince’s complete lack of aggressiveness is completely contrasted by Rogozhin, Dostoyevsky’s idea of anti-Christ.

Yet these shining moments were overshadowed by the many pages of idiotx.

The novel examines the consequences of placing such a unique individual at the centre of the conflicts, desires, passions and egoism of worldly society, both for the man himself and for those with whom he becomes involved. I have yet dostoievdki read a Russian novel which ends well for all the protagonists.

Like Myshkin himself, the novel’s intent is nearly perfect, but the execution is just a little off, a little unstable. View all dostoievki comments. If I could see in Myshkin a person who is on the autistic spectrum, I would feel compassion for him and be frustrated that his community is not capable of helping him communicate according to his abilities.
