I finally figured out who is who toward the end of the book. The author does a great job of highlighting many of the prominent factions within Battletech lore, making each one seem interesting and at least somewhat justified in their bids for power within the setting. There’s a problem loading this menu right now. Man, Stackpole sure wrote some thick Battletech tomes back in the day! It’s free and yours to keep. This is never depicted realistically in any Battletech book. The ramifications of having that much power, and what it would really mean in terms of a war, is barely touched on in this book.
Rather I think that the stories were severely handicapped by their short format, which was likely not in the author’s control.
If you plan on reading Battletech books in the Clans Era [years ] this is the book to start with and make sure you read them in order.

It was entertaining enough; I still like the science fiction war feudalism thing that Battletech has going on. I read this because my recent re-introduction into the Battletech universe Harebrained Schemes superb game got me curious about the lore.
